What this site collects, what it does not, and who else is involved when you use it.

What we collect directly

Nothing that identifies you. Mini Split Data has no accounts, no newsletter, no comments, and no forms that ask for personal information.

The mini split finder

The mini split finder runs in your browser and asks our server for the products matching your answers. Those requests contain your answers — a room size, a circuit type — and nothing about you. They are not stored against any identifier.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard web server logs: the page requested, the time, a browser user-agent string, and an IP address. These keep the site running and identify abuse. We do not use them to build profiles.

Amazon links

Links to Amazon carry an affiliate tag identifying this site as the referrer. Amazon’s own privacy policy governs everything that happens once you follow one. We receive aggregate reporting on clicks and purchases — never the identity of the person who made them.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising cookies. Amazon may set its own when you follow a link there, including the one that attributes a purchase to this site.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets cookies and sends Google an event containing your IP address, the page you are on, and technical details of your browser. We use it in aggregate, but the data goes to Google and Google’s privacy policy governs it there.

Third parties

Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google’s servers receive a request including your IP address when a page loads. Google Analytics, described above, is the other.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data an operator holds about you. In our case there is very little to exercise them against. Requests concerning data Amazon holds should go to Amazon.

What we deliberately do not do

There is no advertising network, no social embeds, no session recording, and no A/B testing framework. Each would collect more about you than we have any use for.

Data retention

Server logs are retained by our hosting provider under their standard policy. Because we hold no accounts, there is no user database to retain, breach, or be asked to delete.

Children

This site is intended for people buying heating and cooling equipment and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, which includes children.
